 BEVERLY— The Endicott men’s basketball team’s fast start helped the Gulls turn away Nichols, 93-80, Saturday afternoon inside MacDonald Gymnasium in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

The Gulls led start to finish as they jumped out to a commanding 23-point lead—their largest lead of the game— on junior guard Joel Villa‘s (Bronx, N.Y.) layup to give the hosts a 47-24 advantage with 4:53 to play in the opening stanza.

Endicott scored a season-high 52 points in the first half, as the Gulls went into the locker room up 52-35 at the break.

The Bison edged the Gulls by a four-point margin in the second half, but Endicott was able to put the game out of reach despite being out-shot at the free throw line single handedly by Nichols’ sophomore guard Marcos Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) who made more free throws (16-of-17) than the Gulls attempted in the entire game (9-of-15).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls tied their season-high with 93 points (W, 93-89 at Middlebury on 11/27/16), which was the most they’ve scored in a conference game this season.
  • Endicott buried a season-high 37 field goals and blocked a season-high five shots.
  • Endicott placed four student-athletes in double figures as senior guard Kamahl Walker‘s (Worcester, Mass.) 15 points joined Lipscomb in the double-digit scoring column alongside 12 points apiece from senior guard Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) and freshman guard Keith Brown (Pelham, N.H.).
  • Senior forward Daquan Sampson (Germantown, Md.) grabbed a tied-for-game-high nine rebounds.
  • Junior forward Christen Morneweck (Burlington, Mass.) blocked a career-high three shots and registered a season-high seven points off the bench.

  • Echevarria scored 22 of his game-high 37 points in the first half alone.
  • Freshman guard DeAnte Bruton (New London, Conn.) joined Echavarria in double figures with 21 points and four rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
  • Freshman forward Jerome Cunningham (Westbury, N.Y.) tied Sampson with a game-high nine boards.

NOTES

  • The Gulls are 20-5 overall and 11-2 at home in the all-time series against Nichols.
  • Endicott has won four of the past five meetings, including an 82-80 win in the CCC Semifinals on 02/25/16 in the most recent matchup before today.

BEVERLY — The Endicott women’s basketball overcame a halftime deficit against Nichols Saturday afternoon to earn a 60-51 comeback victory inside MacDonald Gymnasium in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

The Bison raced out to a 20-8 advantage after one quarter of play for their largest lead of the game on junior forward Allison Cerrato’s (Rockland, Mass.) layup and turned in a 32-27 lead at the break.

Endicott grabbed its first lead of the day since senior forward Sarah Hood‘s (Burlington, Mass.) opening layup on senior guard Ilyza Holman‘s (Ashland, Mass.) trey with 5:31 to play in the third quarter.

The Gulls took the lead for good (39-37 with 4:48 left in the third quarter) as freshman guard Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) connected from downtown on one of her career-high 4-of-8 three-pointers with en route to a career-high/game-high 17 points and seven rebounds in the come-from behind victory.

Nichols chipped away to get the score within two, 53-51, with 2:31 left, but six straight points from Pratt helped put the game away.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 20-5 overall and 11-2 at home in the all-time series against Nichols.
  • Endicott has won the past three straight meetings, including last season’s series sweep.
  • Pratt has scored in double-digits in six games this season.
  • Hood recorded her second consecutive double-double of the season as she poured in 10 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – In a matchup of nationally ranked teams, the No. 6/6 Middlebury women’s ice hockey team picked up a 3-0 victory over No. 10 Endicott on Saturday evening at Kenyon Arena.

The Panthers received goals from Jessica Young (Mission Hills, Kan.), Elizabeth Wulf (Larchmont, N.Y.), and Rachael St. Clair (Minnetonka, Minn.), while Lin Han (Toronto, Ont.) stopped 13 shots for her first career shutout.

Endicott goaltender Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) kept the Gulls in the contest with 36 saves as Middlebury outshot Endicott by a 39-13 margin. Jonsson made 12 saves in a scoreless first period, before allowing one goal on 16 shots in the second, and two more on 11 attempts in the third.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today’s game was the second meeting for Endicott against Middlebury in program history (0-2-0).
  • In both matchups, Middlebury has been nationally ranked (7th in 2015-16, 6th in 2016-17).
  • Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) won a team-high eight faceoffs.

FOR THE FOES

  • St. Clair finished with a two-point day as she added an assist on Wulf’s tally at 10:50 of the third.
