Men’s Ice Hockey Wins

MILTON – The Endicott men’s ice hockey team wrapped up regular season play on Saturday night against Curry College with a 6-3 victory over the Colonels at Max Ulin Rink.

Endicott used a four-goal first period, which featured four different goal scorers, to extend its winning streak to four straight games. During that span (Feb. 6-20), the Gulls have outscored their opponents 23-4.

In the opening 20 minutes of play in tonight’s game, Endicott received tallies from Cam Bleck (Lake Forest, Ill.), Dominic Nitti (Cottage Grove, Minn.), Tommy Besinger (Milton, Mass.), and Alex Marcinek (Byron Center, Mich.).

Besinger and Josh Bowes (Sturgeon County, Alberta, Canada) added goals in the second and third periods, respectively, to round out the scoring for the Gulls.

Endicott freshman goaltender Kevin Aldridge (Beverly Hills, Mich.) made 28 saves in the win (15-8-2), while Curry freshman netminder Spencer Cookson (Sheffield, Mass.) registered 29 saves in the loss (1-3-1).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is now 1-1-0 in the all-time series against Curry.
  • The Gulls are 8-2-1 on the road this season.
  • Endicott tallied a program record four power play goals in tonight’s win.
  • The previous single-game high was two, which came against Salve Regina (11/12/15) and Western New England University (1/16/16).
  • Besinger has scored at least one goal in three straight contests.

Women’s Ice Hockey Wins

BEVERLY – The Endicott women’s ice hockey team concluded regular season play on Saturday afternoon against Salem State University with a 2-0 victory over the Vikings at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

Tied 0-0 late in the second period, Endicott freshman forward Meaghan Farragher (Bridgewater, Mass.) broke open the scoreless tie at 19:58 by one-timing a rebound in the slot through traffic for her first career collegiate goal.

Teneal Perry (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) generated the scoring opportunity with a shot from the right face-off circle that hit Jenn Toussaint’s (Reading, Mass.) pad and ricocheted toward the slot to Farragher, who promptly blasted the loose puck home.

Lexi Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) capped the scoring in the third when she won a puck from a defender at the blue line and buried a breakaway goal, low glove-side, for her seventh tally of the season.

Endicott goaltender Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) turned away 17 shots to record her seventh shutout of the year, while Toussaint made 43 saves in the loss (4-17-0).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is now 2-0-0 in the all-time series versus Salem State.
  • Jonsson improved her overall record to 11-5-4 with today’s win.
  • The Gulls killed a 5-on-3 penalty during the second period to maintain the shutout. Salem State generated three shots during that span (two on goal).
  • Endicott’s Meredith Vlachos (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Salem State’s Kelsey Russell (Arlington, Mass.) tied for the game-high in face-off wins with 11 apiece.

Endicott (13-6-4), who has advanced to the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) Tournament by posting an 11-1-2 record in league play, will now await word from the conference office of its opponent in the upcoming tournament on Sunday. Salem State (5-19-0, 4-10-0 CHC) will also await word on its playoff fate this Sunday.

Women’s Hockey Playoffs Announced Sunday

BEVERLY – The Endicott women’s ice hockey team has earned the No. 2 seed and an automatic bye into the semifinal round of the upcoming Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) Tournament after posting an 11-1-2 record in league play this season.

Endicott will travel to Stevenson University (13-0-1) on March 5 to play the highest remaining seed left in the tournament after the conclusion of the quarterfinal round. The matchups in the quarterfinal round include No. 3 Morrisville State (9-3-2) vs. No. 6 Johnson & Wales (4-10-0), and No. 4 SUNY Canton (7-6-1) vs. No. 5 Becker (5-9-0).

With its 13-0-1 record, Stevenson University claimed the conference’s inaugural regular season title, an automatic bye into the semifinal round, and, most importantly, the right to host the semifinal and final rounds at home. The Mustangs will play the lowest remaining seed from the quarterfinal round in the semis on March 5.

Volleyball Loses

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott men’s volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to No. 1 nationally ranked Springfield College and No. 8 Stevenson University on Saturday evening at Dana Gymnasium. The Gulls fell to the host Pride, 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-19), in the opening match of the Springfield Invitational before coming up short against Stevenson, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-17), in the nightcap.

MATCH ONE: No. 1 Springfield 3, Endicott 0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-19)

Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) paced the Gulls’ offensively with a team-high 10 kills to go along with two service aces, two digs, and a block (assist). John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.) added nine kills, three digs, and two blocks (both assisted), while Alex Wasik (Milford, Mass.) had five putaways on nine swings (.333 hitting percentage) and a team-high three block assists. Cameron Little (San Diego, Calif.) facilitated the offense, which compiled 32 kills total, by dishing out 22 assists.

The Gulls played Springfield tightly throughout the entire match as each set featured at least four lead changes. Tonight’s matchup against Springfield also saw all three sets have tied scores at the 17-17 mark or higher in each set.

Set one showcased 12 tie scores and eight lead changes before the Pride finally broke open a 19-19 tie with a 6-0 run to end the set (25-19). Springfield registered two kills and two service aces and also capitalized on a pair of errors by Endicott for the first-set victory.

In set two, Springfield erased a 24-18 deficit behind four kills and four Endicott errors, while in set three the Pride used an 8-2 run late in the set (17-17) to complete the sweep over the Gulls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Riorden has notched 10 or more kills in seven matches this season.
  • The Gulls had their three-match winning streak snapped in the loss versus Springfield.

FOR THE FOES

  • Trevor Mattson (Redlands, Calif.) and Kyle Jasuta (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tied Riorden for the match-high in kills with 10 each.
  • Mike Neary (Ventura, Calif.) ran the attack with a match-high and season-high 38 assists.
  • Jason Weedon (North Tustin, Calif.) also chipped in with nine kills.

MATCH TWO: No. 8 Stevenson 3, Endicott 0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-17)

Wasik fueled Endicott’s offense in the second match of the day by posting a team-high 11 kills on 16 swings for a .562 hitting percentage (season-high, min. 15 attempts). Osborne also contributed six kills and Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) had five, while Little rounded out the list of offensive highlights for the Gulls with 21 assists.

After breaking up a 20-20 tie in set one to edge Endicott, 25-21, to begin the match, the Mustangs hit over .550 throughout the next two sets (.684 set two, .400 set three) to earn its 11th straight victory. Defensively, Stevenson held Endicott to a .135 hitting percentage (third lowest this season), recorded 21 digs, and 10 blocks (two solo, eight assisted).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Wasik has compiled 10 or more kills in four matches during the 2016 campaign.
  • Despite both losses tonight, Endicott is still 5-2 on the road in 2016.

FOR THE FOES

  • Landon Shorts (York, Pa.) led all student-athletes with 14 kills on 21 swings (.476 hitting percentage).
  • Jason Gardner (York, Pa.) aided the offense with seven kills on 14 attempts (.429 hitting percentage).
  • Rob Wingert (Hanover Township, Pa.) had a match-high assists in the win.

Women’s Basketball Loses

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s basketball team strung together a strong third quarter effort, but it wasn’t enough as visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Western New England outlasted the Gulls, 70-62, in the last game of the regular season on Senior Day inside MacDonald Gymnasium.

Senior guard Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.) registered a double-double with a team-high 23 points that tied for a game-high, and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in the defeat, in addition to two assists, four blocks and one steal.

Western New England got out to a fast start, taking a commanding 24-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Sophomore guard Dorothy O’Neill (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced all scorers with 10 points in the first half, as the Golden Bears took a 37-26 advantage into the locker room at the break.

The Gulls stormed back in the third quarter by outscoring the Golden Bears, 22-10, to claw their way back into the game.

Cuddy’s pair of free throws with 2:28 to go in the third gave Endicott its first lead since the opening basket and the Gulls went on a 6-0 run to go up 46-40 with 1:33 to play in the third quarter. Endicott held WNEU scoreless for nearly five minutes during this stretch as the third quarter came to a close with the Gulls holding to a slim 48-47 edge.

Momentum swung back in favor of the Golden Bears as the guests bookended their scoring effort with 23 points in the fourth quarter to go up for good with 7:48 left in the game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Cuddy recorded her third double-double of the season.
  • The Gulls’ largest lead of the game was six points with 1:33 left in the third quarter.
  • WNEU led by as much as 17 with 5:18 remaining in the first half.
  • The Golden Bears scored 15 second chance points, compared to Endicott’s six.

FOR THE FOES

  • O’Neill scored a team-high 23 points to go with five rebounds and four assists.
  • Junior forward Emily Anderson (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and senior guard Chelsea Vujs (Berlin, Conn.)  added 17 points and 10 points, respectively.
  • Vujs also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
  • The Golden Bears out-rebounded the Gulls, 46-37.

  • Endicott is 11-8 all-time and 5-4 at home versus Western New England dating back prior to the 2008 season.
  • The Gulls won the most recent meeting before today, 59-52, in Springfield, Mass. on Jan. 9, 2016 as senior guard Kelsey Cuddy became the 11th student-athlete in Endicott women’s basketball program history to reach the 1,000 career point milestone.
  • Western New England has won the past three of the four three head-to-head matchups as the teams split the regular season series this year.

BEVERLY, Mass.– The Endicott men’s basketball team will look to defend its 2014-15 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) title beginning on Tuesday, February 23 at 5:30 p.m. as  No. 5 seeded Gordon (12-13, 9-9 CCC) comes to Beverly, Mass. to face the No. 4 seeded Gulls.

The Gulls (15-10 overall) earned the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament after posting a 12-6 record in CCC play and advanced to CCC Tournament for the 15th time in program history.

PREVIOUS MATCHUPS: The Gulls and Fighting Scots met twice in the regular season, as Endicott swept the season series by scores of 75-60 and 80-73 earlier this season. Endicott is 20-17 all-time against Gordon dating back to the 1996 season.

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Endicott and Gordon will meet in postseason play for the first time since a 73-52 Gulls’ loss in Wenham, Mass. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 in the TCCC Quarterfinals.

2016 CCC Women’s Basketball Pairings Release

The Gulls (15-10 overall) earned the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament after posting a 13-5 record in CCC play and advanced to CCC Tournament for the 17th time in program history.

PREVIOUS MATCHUPS: The Gulls and Colors met twice in the regular season, as Endicott swept the season series by scores of 77-62 and 65-42 earlier this season. Endicott is 22-6 all-time against Curry dating back prior to the 2002 season.

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Endicott and Curry will square off again in postseason play, as the Colonels defeated the Gulls, 66-49, in Milton, Mass. on Feb. 26, 2015 in the CCC Semifinals last season.

POSTSEASON HISTORY: The Gulls have made the CCC Tournament in every season since joining the conference in 1999, except the 2001-02season. Endicott has appeared in a conference championship in three of 22 seasons overall, including a 77-61 loss to Salve Regina in Coach Hutchinson’s first season at the helm.
