GROVELAND — Chief Jeffrey Gillen is pleased to announce that the Groveland Police Department has implemented a new program that gives community members a safe and secure meeting place to complete online transactions.
The Groveland Police Department worked with OfferUp, an online marketplace, to establish a “MeetUp Spot” at the police station to ensure buyers and sellers can make in-person transactions with more peace of mind.
Those who would like to utilize the service can go to the police station, 181 Main St., to complete online transactions made through Facebook, Craigslist, or another medium. An area in the station’s parking lot has been designated as the MeetUp Spot.
“We know that the trend of purchasing and selling items online is only going to continue to rise, so we wanted to allocate a space to our community members to make safe transactions,” Chief Gillen said. “Residents and business owners who are completing transactions using sites like Craigslist and Facebook are encouraged to utilize this new service.”
While the Groveland Police Department cannot guarantee the quality or authenticity of items purchased online, the MeetUp Spot was created to give residents a safe, secure and public spot to conduct purchases and sales of items.
The Groveland police station is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is covered by security cameras.
