Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 11212017 – State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Andover
This morning, at approximately 6:40 a.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Andover responded to reports of a crash on Route 495 southbound, just prior to Route 93 in Andover. Upon arrival, Trooper Thomas Hollow discovered that a 2010 Honda CRV, driven by a 59-year-old woman from Haverhill, had struck a 2015 GMC Sierra pickup, from behind. The GMC was then pushed into a 2003 Toyota 4Runner, which was then pushed into a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, which was pushed into a 2012 Mazda 3.
The driver and only occupant of the Honda CRV was determined to be deceased at the scene, as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 57-year-old man from South Berwick, Maine suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Lawrence General Hospital. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner, a 51-year-old man from Newton, New Hampshire, the driver of the Chevrolet Impala, a 22-year-old man from North Andover, and the driver of the Mazda 3, a 54-year-old woman from Farmington, New Hampshire, were not injured.
The victim’s name will be released after proper family notifications have been made.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that traffic was slow or at near standstill prior to the crash, due to regular commuters, when the Honda CRV struck the GMC Sierra at a speed greater than that of the other traffic.  During the incident, the right two lanes were closed until the scene was cleared at approximately 8:54 a.m.
The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by troopers assigned to the State Police Andover Barracks. Troop A Headquarters, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), Andover Fire Department, Office of the State Medical Examiner, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) all assisted on scene.
