RUTLAND, Vt.– Amanda Giles and Danielle Kelley each scored second period goals, but Salem State lost 8-2 to Suny-Canton in the consolation match of the WSYB/Catamount Radio Invitational hosted by Castleton University on Sunday afternoon. The Roos (6-5-1) scored five first period goals en route to a six-goal victory. The Vikings (1-9-2) have now lost three straight.

Noelle Niemiec and Tess Adams each recorded a hat-trick for SUNY-Canton, which went up 2-0 on two early Niemiec power play goals. Katie Ferguson added the third Roo’s goal of the period before Adams closed the scoring in the first with two more power play goals back-to-back.

The Vikings responded as Giles and Kelley opened up the scoring in the second, making the score 5-2. However, Niemiec scored her third of the game to put SUNY-Canton back on top by four goals at 6-2.

Adams and Sydney Jordan provided the only scoring for the Roos, who went 6-for-7 on the power play, in the third period. Isabelle Woodward made 25 saves for Salem State while Kristen Caporusso stopped 14 shots for SUNY-Canton, which outshot the Vikings 33-16.
