LYNN – (Videos – Photo Gallery) The St. Mary’s softball team scored twice in the top half of the ninth inning to defeat Lynn Classical 6-4 in extra innings to capture the John Holland Tournament Sunday at Breed Middle School. In the 9th, with two outs Frankie Simon doubled, Vanessa VanBuskirk tripled home a run, and then Katie Terban singled in an insurance run. Mia Nowicki picked up the win on the mound in relief of Michaela Hamill. Nowicki earned tournament MVP honors. Nowicki pitched St. Mary’s over Swampscott yesterday 1-0, recording 15 strikeouts. As for St. Mary’s they finish the regular season at 16-4, Catholic Central League Champions, and they will head to the MIAA tournament. Lynn Classical ended the season at 11-9 and is also headed to the MIAA tournament. Both head coaches Paige Licata and Erica Richard are featured in post game video interviews. St. Mary’s has captured 8 out of 9 Lynn City Championships this year.
