DANBURY, CT – The Western Connecticut State University men’s tennis team concluded the 2016 regular season with a 6-3 win over Little East Conference rival Salem State Saturday afternoon at Westside Courts.
Claiming wins at singles for Western were sophomore Marco Gobbato (Yonkers, NY), 6-1, 6-1 over sophomore John Didonato (Newbury, MA); senior Romney Tiru (Waterbury, CT), 6-4, 6-2 over senior Kevin Lam (Salem, MA); sophomore Adam Howard (Waterford, CT), 7-6, 6-2 over senior David Dluznieski (Auburn, MA); and sophomore Jeff Hensley (Naugatuck, CT), 6-4, 6-2 over junior Luke Hodgkins (Winthrop, MA).
Singles victories for Salem State came from senior Connor Erickson (Hubbardston, MA), 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 over junior Jason Hipona (Orange, CT), and freshman Chen Chen (Lawrence, MA), 6-4, 6-2 over sophomore Benjamin Cortez (Danbury, CT).
In doubles, Gobbato and Hipona teamed up to defeat Didonato and Lam, 8-3, and Tiru and junior Matthew O’Keefe (Cromwell, CT) beat Dluznieski and Hodgkins, 8-4.
For Salem State at doubles, Erickson and Chen defeated Cortez and Hensley, 8-2
With the win, Western’s season record stands at 7-9, while Salem State falls to 5-6.
