Rockport Police Arrest Man for Assault and Battery

ROCKPORT – Chief John Horvath reports that the Rockport Police Department arrested a man today who allegedly assaulted a woman earlier this week.

ANGEL SAUL PEREZ CASTRO, AGE 22, OF GLOUCESTER is charged with Assault with Intent to Commit Rape and Assault and Battery on a Disabled Person.

On Aug. 24, Rockport Police responded to a location on Pooles Lane at 9:10 p.m. on a report of a woman screaming outside. Officers arrived to find the victim, who stated that she was attacked from behind and knocked to the ground. After knocking the victim down, the suspect then attempted to remove her clothes, reaching for her underwear, but was unsuccessful and fled the area on a bicycle.

A Rockport Police investigation led to surveillance footage from a local business, which police were able to use to identify the suspect.

On Aug. 26, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Rockport Police Officer Daniel Mahoney and members of the Gloucester Police Department located the individual who matched the description of the man seen in the surveillance photos.

Following an interview with the suspect, he was placed under arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Gloucester District Court on Monday.

“The successful resolution of this incident and arrest of the suspect is the result of a multi-agency collaboration including the Rockport Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, Gloucester Police Department and the MBTA Police,” Chief Horvath said. “The dedication and fine work of all law enforcement members involved in this effort are reflective of their continued commitment to the safety of our communities.”
