UPDATE: Coast Guard responds to allision between tanker and 3 moored sailboats on Maine, New Hampshire border

BOSTON — The Coast Guard is continuing to monitor the condition of the tanker Chem Venus, after it allided with three unoccupied, moored sailboats Wednesday afternoon at the mouth of the Piscataqua River near Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine.

Coast Guard vessel inspectors boarded the vessel and determined the Panamanian flagged, Chem Venus sustained damage to its bow causing the boat to take on water. The rate of flooding was stabilized and is being monitored by the Coast Guard and the crew of the Chem Venus.

Despite the damage no pollution has been reported, and the Chem Venus remains safely anchored outside of the Piscataqua River. The vessel was carrying a load of used vegetable oil and a variety of other industrial chemicals.

The Coast Guard Salvage Engineering Response Team has been engaged to conduct a vessel stability assessment.
In addition, divers are expected to conduct a survey of the damage early Thursday morning.
The cause of the allision is under investigation

North Shore Navigators Win First Game Against Worcester Bravehearts By A Score Of 4-2

The North Shore Navigators got their second win in a row on Wednesday night as they took down the Worcester Bravehearts in their first matchup of the season. The Navigators put together another complete effort and they managed to win the contest by a final score of 4-2.

Alex Brickman (Siena College) had a monster game for the Navigators. In a sort of homecoming for the former Worcester Academy standout, he hit two home runs that were absolute blasts. Both went over the left field fence and they were his first two homers of the year. He really got the Navigators offense going and he was the reason that they were able to grab an early 2-0 lead.

Cole O’Connor (Dartmouth) had a superb game on the mound for the Navigators. It only took O’Connor 85 pitches to work through seven innings in Worcester, and he managed to strike out three Bravehearts on the night. He pitched the first six inning scoreless before he gave up two runs in the seventh. Still, it was an impressive performance by O’Connor and he really gave the Navigators the boost they needed to notch the win.

Following O’Connor’s effort, Sean O’Neill (Brandeis University) came in and pitched the final two innings. O’Neill was also great during the game, and he added another strikeout to his total for the season. He only allowed two base runners in total and was credited with a save in the matchup.

The newest member of the Navigators, RJ Warnock of Ave Maria University, continued to impress in his second game with the team. Warnock went 1-4 on the night but managed to pick up both an RBI and a run scored on the night. His season batting average now stands at .375.

The Navigators will return to action on Thursday, June 30 when they take on the Torrington Titans in Connecticut. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Navigators will return to Fraser Field on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. when they take on the Brockton Rox. It will be their special Salute to the Red, White, and Blue game, and there will be a fireworks display after the game.
