Newbury Fire Department Responds after Aircraft Goes into Woods at Plum Island Airport

Aircraft Originated from Yarmouth, Maine

NEWBURY — Chief Douglas Janvrin reports that the Newbury Fire Department responded today after a small aircraft landing at Plum Island Airport ended up in the woods.

Firefighters responded to a reported plane crash at the airport, located at 24 Plum Island Turnpike, at 12:38 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, firefighters found a single-engine AMD Alarus CH2000 in the woods. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, had already exited the aircraft and was uninjured.

The aircraft, tail number N239AM, is registered to Bald Eagle Flying Club, of Yarmouth, Maine.

The Federal Aviation Administration arrived on scene Wednesday afternoon and will conduct an investigation into the facts and circumstances of the incident. The Newburyport Fire Department and Newbury Police Department also responded to the scene to assist.
