Navigators 1B Alex Brickman Wins FCBL Player Of The Week

Navigators 1B Alex Brickman Wins FCBL Player Of The Week

(LYNN) – After a week that saw the North Shore Navigators move into fourth place overall in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL), the team got some exciting news about one of their players. Alex Brickman was named the Futures League Player of the Week for his stellar performance over the team’s last six games.

“Alex did a great job getting on base this week,” said Navigators General Manager Bill Terlecky, “He was one of our most consistent performers and really helped to get the team some wins this week.”

Brickman, who is going into his freshman season at Siena College in the Fall, had a terrific week for the Navigators. Playing in six games, Brickman posted a .364 batting average with a ridiculously high on base percentage of .576. He managed to post that high number thanks to the 11 walks that he drew over the course of the week.

One of Brickman’s best games came in the team’s 16-0 romp over the Torrington Titans. In that game, Brickman went 3-5 and got on base via a walk. His big hit in that game was a monster homer that gave the Navigators the final two runs of the performance. It was his fourth home run of the season, which is good for second on the Navigators team behind Colby Maiola (UMass Lowell). Brickman also managed to double during that game and brought his season total in that category to seven.

Brickman is the second Navigators player to earn the FCBL Player of the Week honor, joining C/1B Mike D’Acunti who was given the honor back in June.

Brickman will look to stay hot into the Navigators three game home stand. They will take on the Bristol Blues on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. game will be a Kid’s Day game, as many local camps will be attending the game. The team will also have a Firework Friday game against the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks at 7:00 p.m. All of the game will be played at Fraser Field.

Navigators Win Third Straight Over Blues 7-4

The North Shore Navigators continued their winning ways on Tuesday night as they traveled to Bristol to take on the Blues. In the second of four straight matchups against the Connecticut club, the Navigators won once again by a final score of 7-4.

The Navigators got the game started on the right foot offensively in the first inning, as they pushed three runs across to take an early lead. Joey Pena (St. Thomas Aquinas) got the game started by doubling and advancing to third on an error by the left fielder. He would later come around to score after MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State) reached first on another error.

From there, the Navigators would load the bases for newcomer Nick Falkson (Tufts University). Falkson managed to get to second base via an error that scored Jordan Roper (Marist College) and Nick DiBenedetto (Trinity College). This gave the team a 3-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first. However, the Blues would strike for four runs to take the lead and the Navigators offense had to take control once again.

The team was able to do just that. Over the next two innings, they scored four runs to take the 7-4 lead on the Blues. In the second inning Singleton came around to score the tying run before they got a rally going in the third. After Nick Rossi (Keene State) walked, Mack Nathanson of Wofford College singled to put two on for Pena. Pena managed to double home Rossi to give the Navs the lead. After that, Singleton got another single to score both Pena and Nathanson. This gave him two RBIs on the day.

Following that, the Navs would not relinquish the lead. Brett Morrison (Lock Haven) came on and dealt a solid 2 and 1/3 innings of work for the team. He only allowed four base runners, on two hits and two walks, and he struck out four batters during his outing. He managed to work out of a key bases loaded situation in the sixth that helped keep the Navigators ahead.

After Morrison’s outing, Quinn DiPasquale (Stevens Institute) came on to shut down the Blues. He worked three innings in the ballgame and struck out six Blues. He was dominant on the mound and earned the save in an impressive fashion.

The Navigators will return to action on Wednesday, July 27 when they play host to the Blues once again. First pitch at Fraser Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
