LYNN SHOOTING VICTIM/SUSPECT IDENTIFIED

From Essex DA spokesperson Carrie Kimball-Monahan:

The man shot by Lynn police early this morning has been identified as Michael McInnis (DOB: 11/14/1975) of Malden.

At approximately 3:47 am, Lynn Police responded to the Gulf gas station at 425 The Lynnway for a report of an armed robbery.  The caller, the clerk at the gas station, reported that a man, later identified as McInnis, robbed the station of $150 after a violent struggle, during which he threatened to shoot the clerk.

Upon arriving at the gas station, Lynn officers noticed a man matching the description of the robber, walk out of the parking lot at 491 The Lynnway and cross the street.  Police followed McInnis, who then crossed the street again.  Officers approached him again and noticed that he had his hands in his pockets.  McInnis refused to comply with numerous requests by the officers to show his hands.  At some point, one of the officers discharged his weapon twice, striking him in the upper torso.  He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he underwent surgery and was later pronounced dead.

This matter is being investigated by the Essex District Attorney’s Office and the MSP detectives assigned to this office.  As soon as the investigation is complete, a full report will be released to the public.
