Salem State Women’s Hockey Wins
SALEM – Catherine Salvetti (Saugus, Mass.) scored one minute into overtime to lift Salem State to a 4-3 victory over Johnson & Wales in a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon at Rockett Arena. The Vikings improve to 4-14-2 on the year while the Wildcats go to 9-11-3.
Salvetti punched home a loose puck in the crease for the game-winner after Johnson & Wales scored two late goals to force overtime.
Trailing 3-1 in the third, Kathryn Mason (Grafton, Mass.) tallied a power play goal with less than five minutes remaining to draw the Wildcats to within one. Kaitlin Irvine (Alexandria Bay, N.Y.) then tied the game as she rifled a rebound past goalie Sarah Plourde (Hooksett, N.H.) at 17:31 of the third.
Casie Curtin (Wrentham, Mass.) and Rose Sullivan (Charlestown, Mass.) each scored first period goals for the Vikings, who only had seven shots on net, to help Salem State to a 2-0 lead at intermission.
Kathy Ensor (St. Louis, Mo.) got one back for the Wildcats as she put home a loose puck in the crease at the 14:27 mark of the second before Danielle Kelley (Charlestown, Mass.) led an odd-man rush, which set up Julia Dares (Hanover, Mass.) for a put back and a 3-1 Vikings’ lead early in the third.
Plourde picked up the win making 24 saves while Taylor Duquette (Burrville, R.I.) stopped 20 shots for Johnson & Wales.
