GLOUCESTER – The Gloucester Fishermen (2-1) overcame a series of miscues, including giving up a fumble deep in their own zone on the first play from scrimmage, to defeat Swampscott (2-1) 32-17. Colin Frary (23 for 40, 222 yds, 1 INT, 2 TD) connected with A.J. Venuti on a 5 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and Sean Lahrizi booted a 32 yard field goal sandwiched around a Jermaine Edward 31 yard score for Gloucester that gave the Big Blue a 10-6 lead with 8:03 to go in the half. The Fishermen then scored 3 straight TDs, including 2 in 24 seconds to go up 25-10 at the half. Gloucester took a 32-10 lead in the third quarter before Frary connected on a 9-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter to bring the final score 32-17, Fishermen.
Gloucester stopped Swampscott five times inside the Fishermen 10 yard line to stifle Big Blue scoring drives.
Jermaine Edward scored on runs of 31 yards and 3 yards and ran back an interception 32 yards for another touchdown, while Christian Sanfilippo scored on an 85 yard TD and Marc Smith picked up a 13 yard touchdown. Sanfilippo had 11 carries for 142 yards. Gloucester outgained Swampscott overall, 271 to 236.
