Letter from Hamilton-Wenham Athletic Department Regarding Girls Cross Country Winning Streak
Good Afternoon Once Again,
The Athletic Department at Hamilton-Wenham has become aware of a note posted yesterday on the MA Mile Split website that contradicts what our Athletic Department has announced these last two weeks.
As of this morning, the National Federation of High School’s record books, known for tracking such National records, lists Ridgewood, NJ as having the all-time consecutive, Dual meet victory streak at 133.
The MA Mile website post suggests that active streaks are not listed in the NFHS record books and it seems there as many as three known streaks longer than that of Hamilton-Wenham. The post on the site lists the national leader as Pearl River, NY as having 212 consecutive victories in dual league meets.
We are sorry for any misinformation that may have come from this issue. It was certainly not intentional.
As we have said in our weekly notes the last two weeks, winning streaks are not a priority for our Athletic Department. Certainly, on-field success is one of the pillars we look at when determining success. However, our participation rates, academics and attention to sportsmanship continue to be as much or more of a priority than wins.
