Endicott Men’s Hockey Ties at Tufts – Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams Beat Western New England at Home – Big Night For Vinny Clifford (Danvers)

MEDFORD — The No. 2/2 nationally-ranked Endicott men’s ice hockey team tied Tufts, 2-2, in overtime on Tuesday evening. The Jumbos jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 15:03 mark of the first period on a tally from Brian Brown (Pembroke Pines, Fla.).

Brown netted his second goal of the game just 42 seconds into the second frame to extend the lead to 2-0. Endicott’s Ross Olsson (Billerica, Mass.) cut the deficit in half with his ninth goal of the season under two minutes later. The Gulls closed the gap and made it a tie game with a tally from Daniel Kucerovy (Bethel Park, Pa.) at the 18:28 mark of the third period. Neither team could find the go-ahead goal so the contest went into overtime.

Despite several chances on both sides, the final score remained 2-2 at the end of the overtime period.

Justin Ketola (Esko, Minn.) shifted to 6-0-2 on the season with the tie and recorded 27 saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Endicott is 1-1-1 all-time against Tufts.
Recording assists during the contest were Kucerovy, Jason Kalinowski (Stamford, Conn.), Logan Day (Seminole, Fla.), and Josh Bowes (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada).
Endicott won the faceoff matchup, 49-39.
FOR THE FOES
Nik Nugnes (West Barnstable, Mass.) recorded 25 saves and is 0-5-1 on the season.
Earning assists on the night were Tyler Scroggins (Allen, Texas), Cory Gottfried (Port Washington, N.Y.), Machlan Sawden (Old Lyme, Conn.), and Charley Borek (Durham, N.H.).
The Jumbos held the slight 29-27 shot advantage.

Men’s Basketball Wins 69-59 over Western New England

BEVERLY – The Endicott men’s basketball team used a total team effort to defeat Western New England, 69-59, in conference action on Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Endicott received 38 points from its starters and 31 more via its bench – which included a team-high 17 points from Vinny Clifford (Danvers, Mass.) – to push the Gulls’ winning streak to three straight games and end Western New England’s at four in a row.

Along with Clifford’s 17 points, Endicott saw Joe Del Ricci (Greenville, R.I.) compile six points and four rebounds off the bench, while Jordan Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) racked up eight points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal as a reserve.

Western New England led for the majority of the first half – minus a three-pointer from Del Ricci at 2:56 which tied the game at 24:24 – but Endicott opened the second stanza with a 12-6 run and took over the lead for good. Joel Villa (Bronx, N.Y.), Joe Shehadi (Dorset, Vt.), Thibeault, Rob O’Brien (Rindge, N.H.) and Clifford all contributed points during the run. Clifford capped the spurt by splashing a three-ball at 15:41 to push the Gulls ahead 38-37.

From there, Clifford banged home another three-pointer at 13:54 to spark a 17-8 run, which gave Endicott a 58-45 advantage with 5:00 to play and the Gulls maintained their double-digit lead the rest of the way. Clifford took over the game during that stretch pouring in 12 points, including two 3-pointers.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Thibeault finished with 10 points, three rebounds, and an assist.
Villa had nine points, five boards, one assist, and two steals.
O’Brien had five points, a team-high seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Shehadi notched 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
The Gulls held Western New England to its second worst field goal percentage this season (32.8).
FOR THE FOES
Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) logged a game-high 20 points, alongside eight rebounds, four assists, and two swipes.
Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds.
Tim Reilly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) posted eight points and four rebounds.

Endicott Women’s Basketball Wins

BEVERLY – The Endicott women’s basketball team improved to 4-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a 71-65 win over Western New England on Tuesday evening in MacDonald Gymnasium.

The Golden Bears took an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter but the Gulls responded well and ended the quarter with a 15-12 lead.

Endicott continued to pull away in the second as they went into halftime up 35-24. Western New England closed the gap in the third quarter, coming within four points at the close of the frame.

The Golden Bears upped the pressure during the remaining minutes of play in the fourth and attempted a late comeback which saw them come within three points of the Gulls. Endicott, however, was able to hang onto the lead and secure the 71-65 victory.

Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) recorded a career-high 20 points to lead the Gulls. Mikaela Rogers (Haverhill, Mass.) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds throughout the contest, while Sam Charette (Wenham, Mass.) was close behind with seven.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) and Catie Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.) each tallied nine points.
Gabriella Coppola (Watertown, Mass.) led the team in assists with six. She is now tied for second on the all-time career assists list with 301 assists.
Endicott was 16-17 (94.1%) from the free throw line
The Gulls held a 46-33 rebound advantage.
Endicott now leads the series with Western New England, 13-9.
FOR THE FOES
Dorothy O’Neill (Staten Island, N.Y.) led all scorers with 33 points.
Meghan Gilhool (Montrose, Pa.) and Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) each recorded six rebounds during the game.
Emily Farrell (New Fairfield, Conn.) had a team-high three steals and five assists.
