Curry Football Tops Endicott 17-7, Men’s Soccer Wins in OT, Women’s Soccer Wins, Women’s Ice Open With Win

BEVERLY – A late fourth quarter six-yard touchdown run from Curry senior quarterback Alex Corvese (Cranston, R.I.) was the difference as the Colonels topped Endicott, 17-7, in conference play on Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium.
The Gulls trailed 10-7 headed into the fourth quarter after Lavante Wiggins (Pittsfield, Mass.) hauled in a catch on a wheel route at Curry’s 34-yard line and took it the house to make it a one-possession game (14:06, third quarter).
Both teams then compiled eight possessions, combined, prior to Curry’s nine-play, 75 yard, five minute and 41-second drive capped off by Corvese’s hurdling run into the end zone. The Gulls, meanwhile, had two chances down the stretch to make the contest interesting but only produced 31 yards on seven plays.
FOR ENDICOTT
Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) completed 14 passes on 30 attempts (two interceptions) to go along with 155 yards and his lone touchdown pass to Wiggins in the third quarter.
Wiggins registered 42 yards on the ground and 64 yards receiving for a team-high 106 all-purpose yards.
Andrew Hancock (Commack, N.Y.) caught three passes, while Riley Shanley (Simsbury, Conn.), Brett Sherman (Northborough, Mass.), and Will Genaway (Hinsdale, Mass.) all had two receptions apiece.
William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.), Sam Opont (Bridgeport, Conn.), and Christian Filonow (Nashua, N.H.) all tied for the game-high in tackles with nine each.
Allen Gibson (Seymour, Conn.) notched eight tackles and one forced fumble
Stone Murray (Latham, N.Y.) and Dylan Hutchinson (Winslow, Maine) both had fumble recoveries.
Brett Fox (Niantic, Conn.) had five punts for a total of 240 yards (48.0 average, 65 long, two inside-20).
FOR CURRY
The Colonels outgained Endicott 387-191 and held a 39:04-20:56 advantage in time of possession.
Corvese punched home the first score of the game on a 16-yard scamper at 11:19 of the first. He finished the day 16-for-22 passing for 120 yards alongside his 97 yards rushing on 14 attempts and two TD runs.
Sean Amaru (Westwood, Mass.) collected 140 yards on the ground on a game-high 27 attempts (5.2 average).
Mike DelGais (East Rockaway, N.Y.) led all receivers with five catches, while Nick Villanueva (Hanson, Mass.) had four receptions for 44 yards.
On defense, Curry notched two interceptions, eight pass breakups, and four quarterback hurries.
Joseph Patti (Woburn, Mass.) and Aidan Cawley (Abington, Mass.) had one interception each.
Jeremy Eliades (Berlin, Conn.) and Cameron Sass (Bridgewater, Mass.) both tied for the team-high in tackles with six apiece.

Endicott (1-7, 0-3 CCC Football) travels to Nichols next Saturday for a 12 PM matchup. Curry (7-1, 3-0 CCC Football) hosts Western New England next Saturday at 1 PM.


Men’s Soccer

BEVERLY – Brendan McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) led the No. 1 seeded Endicott men’s soccer team to a double-overtime victory over the University of New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) quarterfinal round held at Hempstead Stadium on Saturday night.
The Gulls and the Nor’easters went scoreless through 101 minutes of play before Endicott scored the golden goal. Diego Maillo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) sent a pass directly to the front of the net, where McLaughlin was waiting to head the ball in past UNE goaltender Nathan Delesdernier (Niantic, Mass.).
Meanwhile, Will Manuel (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) stopped three shots in net in to improve to 8-3-3 on the season and earn the shutout.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
The Gulls outshot the Nor’easters, 44-5.
Endicott totaled 20 shots in both the first and second half.
The Gulls recorded 16 corner kicks to UNE’s two.
Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) paced the offense with 17 shots.
FOR THE FOES
Delesdernier finished the season with a 4-9-0 record and made 12 saves during the contest.
Callum Heaslewood (London, England) and Flynn Willsea (Naples, N.Y.) led the offense with two shots each.
WHAT’S NEXT 
Endicott (11-4-3, 6-1-2 CCC) moves onto the CCC semifinals and will face No. 4 seed Wentworth in Hempstead Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. UNE (4-15-0, 3-6-0 CCC) conclude their season with the loss.


Women’s Soccer 

BEVERLY – Behind six goals from four different players, the top-seeded Endicott women’s soccer team defeated #8 Curry to advance to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinal round on Wednesday evening. The Gulls, now 13-4-1 on the season, will play host to cross-town rival #4 Gordon on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Endicott, the #1 seed in the tournament after posting an 8-0-1 record in CCC play during the regular season, saw two-goal efforts from Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) and Mary Verneris (Hamden, Conn.), while Rachel Hanna (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Claire Shields (Latham, N.Y.) each scored once.
The first half saw Endicott jump out to a commanding 4-0 lead after out-shooting Curry 13-2. Shields got the Gulls on the board early, scoring her first of the season at the 6:02 mark off an assist from CCC Offensive Player of the Year Rachel Hanna. Endicott doubled their lead less than 10 minutes later when a Mary Verneris scored her 12th of the season off Marissa Carlson (Bristol, Conn.) second assist of the season. Just over a minute later, Pernice would score her sixth of the season in the 17th minute before scoring her seventh in the 24th minute to give Endicott the 4-0 lead at half.
Hanna would then help the Endicott offense pick up right where it left off, scoring her 15th of the season in the 60th minute of play. The Colonels would cut the lead to 5-1 in the 65th minute when Soleil Galagarza scored, before Verneris would counter with the 13th of the year to give Endicott a 6-1 cushion. One final tally by the visitors in the 72nd minute by Sarah McGrath would prove to be the final goal of the match at 6-2 in favor of Endicott.
BEYOND THE BOX
Endicott is now 21-2 all-time against Curry, having won the last 13 straight matches between the two programs, as the Gulls out-shot the Colonels 23-12 on the match, including a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal.
The Gulls have advanced to the CCC Semifinals for the third straight season and will make an appearance in the semifinals for the 11th time in 12 seasons under head coach Jodi Kenyon.
Shelby Elwell (Litchfield, Conn.) was credited with the win to improve to 11-2-1 on the season, while Caroline Armbruster (Stowe, Vt.) came in and made two saves in relief.
In the two matches against Curry this season, Verneris scored at least one goal while Hanna recorded at least one assist.
FOR THE FOES
Curry keepers Kristen Buzzotta took the loss to fall to 7-8-1 on the season while Haley Rice came on in the 24th minute and made six saves.
Isabella Shields led the Colonels with five total shots in the contest.
WHAT’S NEXT
#1 Endicott, now 13-4-1 (8-0-1) on the season, advances to host cross-town rival #4 Gordon on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. #8 Curry ends its season at 8-9-3 (1-6-2).


Women’s Ice Hockey

BEVERLY – The No. 9 nationally ranked Endicott women’s hockey team scored once in every period to defeat Southern Maine, 3-0, in the season opener for both teams on Saturday night at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
Michaela McNamara (Warwick, R.I.), Lauren Ferraiuolo (North Haven, Conn.), and Lexi Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) all found the back of the net in that exact order per period in the win. Ferraiuolo highlighted the trio with her first career collegiate at the 19:00 mark of the second with hard slap shot from the left point.
Meanwhile, Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) made 24 saves to register her 15th career shutout.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
The Gulls are 2-1-0 against Southern Maine, winning the last two contests.
Endicott outshot the Huskies, 48-24, and won the faceoff matchup, 30-21.
Both teams combined for 33 blocked shots (17 Endicott, 16 Southern Maine)
Ellen Carter (Roseville, Minn.), Jillian Gibbs (Burlington, Vt.), Madison Huber (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and Rachel Lustenring (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) all had assists in the victory.
Endicott is 3-0-0 in season openers.
Lustenring blocked a game-high five shots.
FOR THE FOES
Britney Evangelista (North Smithfield, R.I.) made 45 saves in the loss (0-1-0).
Julia Ormsby (Barre, Vt.) blocked a team-high five shots and won a game-high 13 faceoffs.
Jensen Hamblett (Colchester, Vt.) paced the team in shots with four.

No. 9 Endicott (1-0-0) hosts Salem State University on Wednesday, November 1 at 7 PM. Southern Maine (0-1-0) travels to Plymouth State University on Friday, November 3 for a conference tilt at 6 PM.
