Boat Fire in Gloucester

Coast Guard and Gloucester Police boats put out a boat fire near the public landing at Gloucester High School early Friday afternoon.  Police were alerted that an 18-foot fiberglass boat was on fire and adrift near the launch site across from Cape Ann Marina at just after 12:30 p.m.  Police say two people were already ashore when officials arrived and that the pair was treated for minor injuries.  The boat was totally destroyed.  There were no reports of any other injuries.  Gloucester Fire Fighters assisted at the scene, both onshore at Cape Ann Marina, and in the water with the Gloucester Harbormaster’s boat.  Coast Guard, Gloucester Fire Department, and State Environmental officials will be investigating the cause.  No other boats were damaged at or near the marina.
